Left to right: back row - Bonnie Hoover; Kimberly Zimmerman; History of MZI Mervin worked for a heating & air conditioning company in 1968. He and a friend were going to go into the plumbing, heating and fuel oil business together. His friend changed his mind but he decided to go ahead with his plan and start his own plumbing and heating company. He searched the area and decided that Lititz would be a good area to start his business. Mervin started out in a little red pickup truck. His vision for the company was to give excellent service to customers in the residential areas. As his business grew he hired his brother, Lester, to do plumbing while he took care of the heating. In 1976 Mervin built an 800 sq./ft. retail store and showroom in the side of the barn that he worked out of. His dream was to have a store where you could buy parts & fixtures for the do-it-yourself projects and talk to a plumber if you needed advice. By 1983 Mervin had 5 trucks on the road plus increased office help. In 1985 Mervin added a 1500 sq./ft. addition on to his store and showroom to make more room to display bathroom fixtures. In 1997 Mervin semi-retired and promoted his youngest son, Merle, to President. Mervin took charge of the outside sales at that time. MZI continued steady growth and today has more than 40 employees which includes 10 Plumbing Technicians with 7 Assistants and 6 HVAC Technicians with 2 helpers. The retail store & showroom is a place for you to come to get questions answered and to be given personal service in your plumbing and heating needs. Our showroom provides bathroom designs and displays of products to help our customers visualize and make their dream bathrooms a reality within budgetary lines.
