Bath Remodeling

How much will my project cost?

This depends on the size and scope of your project. Most bathroom make-overs (where everything is replaced) run $10,000-$15,000. Adding a bath in the basement/attic/spare bedroom will run $12,000-$20.000. Partial remodel projects are typically $5,000-$10,000 and some have been less than $5,000.

When can you get started?

After you have given your verbal go-ahead, most projects start within 4-6 weeks.

How long will my project take? Can I have it done by a certain day?

Most make-overs take from 2-3 weeks. Bathroom additions run 3-6 weeks. Prior to beginning your job you will receive a complete schedule which includes specific dates for each aspect of the job including a finish date. Except in the case of unforseen delays, your new bath will be complete within one day of this date.

Do I have to move out of the house during the construction process?

No. If this is your only bathroom we will guarantee that you have a toilet at the end of each work day. In most cases we can also give you a tub to bathe in after the first day.

How are the sizing capacities of heating and cooling systems measured?

The heating and cooling systems are sized according to their tonnage. One (1) ton equals 12,000 BTU/H. Residential systems can range from 1 to 5 tons.

What size HVAC system should I have?

Contrary to popular belief there, is no rule of thumb for sizing a system to a home. Depending upon the construction of your home, one (1) ton of air conditioning can cool anywhere from 300 to 800 square feet of home. The only way to insure the size of the system you purchase will be large enough to cool your home, but not any larger than you need, is to have your home's individual heating and cooling needs evaluated by a licensed professional.

How is the efficiency of heating and cooling equipment measured ?

The S.E.E.R. (seasonal energy efficiency ratio) is the amount of cooling your system will deliver per dollar spent on electricity. For example, a 3-ton unit may have a S.E.E.R. efficiency rating of 13, 14, or 15. The higher the S.E.E.R. the more efficient the system will be. The S.E.E.R. rating of any given unit can range anywhere from 13 to 19. HSPF (heating seasonal performance factor) is the amount of heating your system will deliver per dollar spent on electricit. HSPF rating can range from 7-9.75. Higher HSPF is more efficient.

How can I increase the efficiency and life of my home's heating and cooling systems?

The most important thing you can do is clean and replace your filters frequently. Also, a system heats and cools more evenly when the blower is in the "on" position. The blower provides constant air movement throughout the home, and allows for better filtration. Finally, shades, drapes, shutters, or screens should be installed on windows that are exposed to extreme sunlight.

How efficient is a GSHP?

The GSHP is one of the most efficient residential heating and cooling systems available today, with heating efficiencies 50 to 70% higher than other heating systems and cooling efficiencies 20 to 40% higher than available air conditioners. That directly translates into savings for you on your utility bills.

Can one system provide both space heating and colling for my home? And what about heating hot water?

Yes. A GSHP can be a combination heating/cooling and hot water heating system. You can change from one mode to another with a simple flick on your indoor thermostat. Using a desuperheater, some GSHPs can save you up to 50% on your water-heating bill by preheating hot tank.

How does a GSHP system heat water for my home?

Using what is called a desuperheater, GSHPs turn waste heat to the task of heating hot water. During the summer, when the system is in cooling mode, your hot water is produced free as a byproduct of the thermal process. In winter, with the heating mode, the desuperheater heats a portion of your hot water. Desuperheaters are standard on some units, optional on others. Stand-alone systems that will heat water all year around can be purchased.

How much space does a GSHP unit require?

Most of a GSHP installation is underground. Inside the house, the heat pump units are about the same size as a traditional heating and cooling unit.
