Most toilets are made of Vitreous china in different colors.
Design
Round Toilets are used in many homes. Years ago they were the top choice for homes but now are primarily chosen because of price on space in the bathroom. Round toilets are available in both standard and comfort height toilets. They are more widely used in the standard height and only available in limited styles in the higher toilets.
Elongated toilets have become very popular in residential homes. Previously they were mostly used in commercial situations or for handicapped. They are now used because of the comfort and room they provide. Some bathrooms are too small for an elongated toilet.
Toilets are designed in traditional or contemporary design to match everyone’s home.
Sizes
12” Rough-In Toilets are the standard in the industry. When deciding to purchase a toilet measure the distance from the wall to the toilet bolt cap covers. This should be around 12”. It does not have to be exact.
10” Rough-In Toilets may be purchased if your measurement is not the standard. The styles are limited but quality flushing toilets are available in this size. This is mostly seen in older homes.
14” Rough-In Toilets are also available if your measurement is over 12”’s. There are not many of these out there but in some older homes they work best so that there is not a large gap between your tank and the wall.
Flush
Single-flush Gravity uses the force of gravity and a precision-engineered tank, bowl and trapway to create a strong siphon during
the flush. Up to date technology has gravity toilets flushing better than ever with very little clogging.
Dual-Flush toilets are also a gravity flush however it has the added feature of only using a half a flush for light use and a full flush for the heavier use. When choosing this toilet keep in mind the installation can be difficult especially if it is replacing an existing toilet. Some dual flush toilets have a skirting with a different installation than the standard installation.
Power Lite toilets from Kohler have technology that uses an electric pump to deliver water from the tank through the bowl and trapway. These toilets need an electrical outlet near the toilet to work. Has an extraordinarily powerful flush.
Pressure Lite are toilets from Kohler that have a pressurized vessel in the tank that directs water through the toilet to provide a strong reliable flush with less water. It can have a louder flush although recent technology address that area.
